Editorial Policy
This editorial policy describes how Pigment & Process researches, writes and reviews content about art and artificial intelligence. It is intended to give readers a clear view of our working standards and our relationship to the subjects we cover.
1. Sourcing
Our writers draw on peer reviewed research in computer vision and machine learning, statements and documentation published by AI model developers, interviews with practicing artists, curators and technologists, museum and gallery publications, court filings and legal commentary on copyright disputes, and hands on testing of generative tools. We favor primary sources and named experts over secondhand aggregation, and we note when a claim rests on a single source or on a developer's own marketing material rather than independent verification.
2. Review process
Every article is read by an editor before publication to check factual claims, confirm that quotations and technical descriptions are accurate, and ensure that opinions are presented as opinions rather than as settled fact. Pieces that discuss legal questions, such as copyright ownership of AI-assisted work, are cross checked against publicly available case law or statutory text and flagged for update if the legal landscape shifts.
3. Corrections
When we discover a factual error, whether in a technical description, a quotation, or a claim about a product's capabilities, we correct the article as soon as practical and add a visible note stating what was changed and when. Minor edits for clarity or grammar are made without a formal note, but any change that affects the substance of a claim is disclosed. Readers can report suspected errors through our contact form, and we review each report on its merits.
4. Advertising and independence
Pigment & Process accepts sponsored content, paid partnerships and review units from software companies, art supply brands and creative platforms, and every such arrangement is disclosed clearly at the top of the relevant article. Sponsors have no editorial control over the conclusions a writer reaches, and acceptance of a sponsorship, sample or payment does not guarantee a favorable review or a guaranteed mention in unrelated articles.
5. Contact the editors
Notes and corrections go to [email protected]. We write back within one business day.
